Writing about history of this vehicle's production is like writing about history of the whole crossover class. RAV4 been there from the day one, since is the first crossover vehicle ever made. Crossover class was made to combine useful features from SUV vehicles like: off-road capability, increased visibility and a lot of cargo space with useful features of compact cars like: maneuverability, fuel economy and finding your parking spot easier. This vehicle has all that since it was made in 1995. Back then it was labeled as a mini-SUV and based on Toyota Corolla platform. Only two years after its first release it won Car of the Year award from Automobile Magazine. Later number of crossovers on the market increased and this type of vehicles for their own class. This vehicle is offered in two variants, whit a short or long wheelbase. First variation is sold in Europe and Japan while the second is sold in US an Canada.

When the first Toyota RAV4 came out it was a mini-crossover, later it got much bigger and it grow to the size of large family crossover. Since 2013 this vehicle is returning to its roots and its size drastically decreased which lead to some unpopular solutions like taking out the third seat row and V6 engine. These steps were made to clearly separate vehicle's in Toyota crossover class, since larger RAV4 looked lot like a larger Highlander. Since the V6 engine is taken out from this vehicle's line up it falls little bit behind some of its rivals like: Ford Escape or Subaru Forester XT, when it comes to performance.

Exterior

During RAV4's production this model managed to wipe out all of the SUV exterior features and become a proper city boy, meant for transporting your family from point A to point B. Since 2013 this vehicle comes with a lot of lines that we saw on some other Toyota vehicles like Toyota Venza. Even the beloved sspare tire from the rear bumper found itself a more conventional spot under the trunk floor. This cutting of all the SUV features made this vehicle loose a lot of its original style and character, but on the other hand it became more popular among boring middle class families, while true fans of this vehicle were left a little bit disappointed, since the new model looks almost like a tall hatchback.

Interior

Interior design of Toyota RAV4 looks just awesome. It has the best cabin design in its class. Toyota took some inspiration from the 80's SUV interior designs, like two tone stitched and padded upholstery that goes across the midline. After this funky design knocks you down, next thing you notice are the materials, that are not as good as the styling itself. New model comes with tones of hard plastic, which is little bit too much for our taste. While the cabin has the same size as the one from last year's model, it looks significantly bigger because of the smarter layout. While base and other less expensive versions come with cloth upholstery, Limited trim level comes with synthetic leather upholstery, that looks really nice, but it still can't be compared with a real leather. Rear seat can be folded and it is very easy to access. It is a little bit flat which can be a bit annoying during longer rides. Front seats in higher trim levels come with heating and more support. Trunk space is very generous, and trunk comes with standard liftgate that can be adjusted to lower garages and open only halfway. LE is the lowest trim level and it comes with radio, CD player, air conditioning and 6,1 inch LCD display. XLE, which is the second higher trim level comes with dual zone climate control, push button start, leather wrapped steering wheel and SofTex upholstery and dashboard trim.Limited is the highest trim level and it adds JBL audio system with 11 speakers, Entune app connectivity and Satellite radio.

Performance

2015 Toyota RAV4 comes with improved handling and all wheel drive that's much more focused than before. Unfortunately V6 engine is not part of its line up anymore. It comes with four cylinder engine that delivers 176 horsepower and it is paired with six speed automatic transmission. It can reach 60 mph in little bit less than 9 seconds. This is almost everything that this model offers when it comes to performance. It is obvious here that Toyota gave much more attention to economical side of RAV4's powertrain.

What Girls Think About Toyota RAV4?

Some people would say that this is a girls car. Most of the girls that we asked about this vehicles noticed soft lines and told us this vehicle looks cute, that they imagine going to some road trip with their girlfriends with it and similar stuff. One girl told us that when a guy buys an SUV he wants something bumpy and big, on the other hand this ride is the exactly what would she wanted to have in her garage. Verano also comes with spacious backseat and trunk area.Verano also offers some good deals when it comes to additional features. There are a lot of ways to make your Verano premium, but it will affect its price a lot. With all the extra features Verano can cost even $10,000 more. There are all kinds of goodies in this offer from: from heated seats and side mirrors, rear parking alarm, Bose surround sound, power driver seat and the finest leather trim you can imagine. In the basic package you get: USB port, rear view camera, power locks start and mirrors, satellite radio, CD player and cloth upholstery.

This is the most disappointing segment in 2015 Buick Verano package. It is undoubted that this car is offering some appealing looks, comfortable and even premium interior, but it really failed when it comes to power, acceleration and fuel efficiency. It comes with much larger engine than Chevy Cruze, but it goes from 0 to 60 mph in 8,6 seconds which is  just a little bit better then Cruze and similar to Acura ILX, which also failed performance section with its 2015 model.2015 Buick Verano comes with 2,4 liter four cylinder engine that can deliver 180 horsepower and six speed manual gear box. Much sportier is turbo-charged version that comes with 2,0 liter engine that delivers 250 horsepower and the same amount of torque and can reach 129 mph, which is quite good comparing to other turbo-charged compact sedans.

Verano is quite affordable, although it offers some border luxury features, especially when it comes to interior. Basic package costs around $20,000 (MSRP) which is definitely a fair game, comparing to other vehicles in its class.

Biggest rival of Buick Verano is always going to be Chevy Cruze. They share the same platform and really look a like. Verano offers much more comfortable interior and slightly better acceleration, but other then that it is like talking about the same vehicle.

Statement

Like with other compact sedans, this is more of a family or business than car the delivers some kind of powerful statement. If you however want to buy one of these for yourself and think this car will make you cool, you are definitely wrong. This is an average car, for an average bloke, with an average salary, home, life etc. On the other hand this can be taken as a positive feature too, since people will give more attention to you than to the car you drive... Or wait, maybe that's bad.

Verano means ''Summer'' in Spanish, and that's how this model got its name. This car had a few movie and TV appearances, but only played minor roles, mostly in police series like: Chicago PD and Major Crimes,but also in some drama and comedy series like The Millers and The After.

What Do Girls think About It

One friend gave a good guess when she said it looks comfortable, after seeing only the exterior photo, so I guess that means we are talking about really comfortable car. She also said it looks calculated and a little bit too plain. On the other hand our expert from the States said that this can definitely be a project car and that an old fellow can pick up some good looking girls, just with driving one of these around the neighborhood. The third girl said that this car looks really cute that she wouldn't mind getting it as a birthday present.

Acura ILX is a entry-level luxury car. It was premiered two years ago as a replacement for the Acura CSX that was made only for Canadian market. New model is sold on American market too. Its closest relative is the European Honda Civic. When it comes to other Acura models, ILX is considered to be the first compact vehicle in the Acura line up since Acura Integra was discontinued and also the first vehicle in line up that comes with a hybrid version. Hybrid Acura is based on Honda Civic Sedan hybrid vehicle that's mainly sold in Europe and it was introduced in United States in 2012, but it was produced for only 2 years. 2015 model lacks hybrid version.

One of the best thing when it comes to 2015 Acura ILX is it is not overpriced like some similar models from other Japanese luxurious branches. Since it is the first compact sedan made by this manufacturer it really stands tall when it comes to maneuverability among other Acura models. Unfortunately, new model comes with some bad sides as well. Hybrid version is discontinued in 2015, so the overall fuel economy got much worse in this year's model. Performance segment in regular ILX models also isn't to brilliant. Same goes for high tech features.

Exterior
This sedan is one of the most handsome ones in the Acura line up. Although it contains many exterior parts that can be seen on Honda Civic, it looks much more luxurious and elegant than its European counterpart. Comparing to its price we can say that it is as elegant as it gets. Front part of the vehicle comes with nice proportions, it is little bit wider than other vehicles in its class and it also comes with longer hood and lower stance than usual. Although it is made to be an executive sedan it also looks very appealing to the younger crowds.

Interior
Interior design looks cheerful and nice. Driver seat offers nice visibility for the road as well as for the central stack and infotainment computer display that's easy readable. Acura ILX's interior is very comfortable, it is the best when it comes to materials and comfort that you can find in a compact sedan. Cabin is well soundproofed with Active Noise Cancellation standard that's now becoming available in all Acura models.Seats are comfortable and it comes with good quality cloth upholstery, leather wrapped steering wheel and door trims made out of soft touch materials. Luggage area is quite small for the car of that size, especially in the hybrid version that comes only with 10,0 cubic feet of luggage space, two less than in the regular model because of its batteries being located inside the trunk area. When it comes to high tech features, ILX doesn't offer too much. It comes with Bluetooth hands free phone inter-face application, automatic climate control, power moonroof and some standard features like keyless entry etc.

Performance
Performance is the weakest segment in this year's ILX model. It comes with unchanged 2,0 and 2,4 liter engines from last year. The most powerful engine in the line up is 2,4 liter four cylinder that came directly from Civic and can produce 201 horsepower. It is paired with 6 speed manual transmission and with the same suspension as the rest of the ILX line up. 2,0 liter four cylinder engine can deliver 150 horsepower and 140 pound feet of torque. It can reach 24 mpg in the city conditions and 35 mpg on the highway that's very good result comparing other vehicles from its class. 

Price 
2015 Acura ILX is a very affordable compact sedan. It comes with almost unchanged price from last year, and it is hard to guess you are buying a luxury vehicle, since it costs only $27,050 (MSRP). For that money you get a lot of luxury, especially when it comes to materials used in i8nterior design.

 

Buick Verano

Competition

Main rivals of the new ILX model are Buick Verano and Audi A3 Sedan. Buick Verano is a little bit more affordable. It can be bought for $23,080 (MSRP), but its performance is even worse than the one we saw in ILX. It delivers 177 horsepower with 2,4 litre four cylinder engine. Audi A3 Sedan is the new A3 line model. It is going to be little more expensive than both Verano and the ILX, its price hasn't been announced yet, but all predictions say it is going to be around $30,000.
